The Q Switched ND YAG Laser Machine is one of the most frequently talked about lasers, especially in places where the world’s pigmentation is paralyzed. We saw it in news, magazines, and Facebook, and we heard this news from friends and relatives. Many people equate lasers with red, swollen faces, or water. This may cause people to solve their dilemmas even without the laser. Let’s take a look at the use of the Nd: Yag laser on this issue.
What is the Q switch Nd: Yag laser?
A laser is basically a light that carries only a specific wavelength, rather than a visible light that carries a certain wavelength range. The laser waves are parallel to each other and all waves temporarily move in the same phase. Visible light is not parallel and will not temporarily move at the same stage. There are many lasers on the market. The Nd: Yag laser is named after the laser medium, Neodymium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet.
It has 2 wavelengths, 1064 nm and 532 nm. It is a non-ablative laser. This means that there is no interruption in the continuity of the skin tissue during treatment. It is designed to target pigment cells. This particular wavelength is preferentially absorbed by the pigment (melanin) and the heat generated will cause the generation and propagation of waves, which can cause damage to the cells containing the pigment. These damaged cells are then removed from the site, causing the stained site to brighten.
When do we use the Q switch Nd: Yag laser?
Q-switched Nd: Yag laser is mainly used for pigmentation disorders, resulting in deep plaques/lesions. It can target hyperpigmentation of superficial and deep skin. However, not all lesions have good results with Q-switched Nd: Yag lasers. Some pigmentation disorders are very effective for Nd: Yag lasers, such as sun spots, freckles, spotted plaques, etc., while some produce different results, namely Hori’s sputum and chloasma. It is important to get the right diagnosis at the beginning to ensure that the treatment is carefully chosen. Of course, the machine and the operator (the doctor who performs the laser) are also the keys to the outcome of the treatment.
Another major indicator of the Q Switch laser machine is the removal of tattoos. Amateur tattoos, those pure black tattoos seem to be better than coloured tattoos (professional tattoos). Black pigments work better than other colours.
In addition, the Q-switch Nd: Yag also has the effect of rejuvenating and providing skin desalination, which is very popular among Asians.
What about the laser program?
Most patients can tolerate the discomfort caused by the laser. Therefore, an anaesthetic cream is usually not required for this procedure.
First, the skin is cleaned, the eyes are covered with protective goggles, and then laser treatment is performed. You will feel mild discomfort/pain, which is usually tolerable. The entire process takes about 15-30 minutes.
After the operation, you may experience redness and swelling at the treatment site, which may last for several hours. Most of the time, there is no swelling, and most patients can resume their work almost immediately.
Immediately emit laser light, and you may or may not see the fade of pigmentation. In fact, pigment spots may darken and brighten after 1-2 weeks. However, skin whitening and rejuvenation can be seen immediately after the laser. Don’t expect dramatic results.
Is this a one-time treatment?
In most cases, treatment does not produce sufficient results. The number of treatments required is variable depending on the diagnosis. Repeat treatment is usually scheduled after 4-6 weeks.
